William Brewster Caskey, M.D., 74, of Lawrenceville passed away suddenly on Tuesday May 21 at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, Philadelphia. Son of the late Kenneth and Bernice Brewster Caskey, Dr. Caskey is survived by his wife Mary Louisa Barlen Caskey, his two children, Brian William Caskey and his wife Jennifer Becker Caskey and Kevin Barlen Caskey and his wife Tanya M. Caskey; his two grandchildren; his two sisters, Claire Krieg and her husband John and Bettie L. Krieg and her husband Robert and his brother- in-law, William H. Barlen. Dr. Caskey was graduated from Franklin and Marshall College in 1962 with High Honors in Psychology. He received his medical degree in 1965 from the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Columbia University in New York City. He completed a rotating internship, residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in endocrinology and metabolism (diabetes) at Jefferson Medical College Hospital in Philadelphia by 1969. Dr. Caskey was certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in both internal medicine and in endocrinology and metabolism. He is a member of the American College of Physicians, the American Diabetes Association, the county and state medical societies, the American Medical Association, the Endocrine Society, the American Society of Clinical Endocrinologists, and was inducted as a Fellow of the American College of Endocrinology in 1994. Dr. Caskey has been involved in the private practice of endocrinology, diabetes mellitus and internal medicine in Mercer County since 1969. He was currently associated with United Health Group. He was associated with St. Francis Medical Center and served as the Chairman of Endocrinology from 1981 to 1983, Director of the Department of Medicine and Director of Internal Residency Program from 1981 to 1984. He served as President and CEO from 1983 to 1985 and Vice-President of Clinical Development from 1985 to 1990. He also served as President of IPA from 1986 to 1992 and was President of the Mercer County Medical Society in 2003 to 2004. Dr. Caskey was instrumental in bringing the first catheterization laboratory to Mercer County at St. Francis Medical Center. He was also a champion for quality and safety especially in obstetrical services. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 2 to 4 PM at Poulson & Van Hise Funeral Directors, 650 Lawrence Road (Route 206), Lawrenceville. Private family services with burial will take place in the Ewing Cemetery. Public Memorial services will be held at a later date.
