Richard S. Rutkowski, Lieutenant Commander, United States Navy, retired, died Thursday at the Hunterdon Care Center in Flemington. Born in Trenton, and a former resident of Pittsfield, MA., he had resided in Lambertville for the past eleven years. He was a graduate of Trenton High School and Rutgers University where he was a member of the Delta Kappa Epsilon Fraternity. He was an avid sports fan and devoted follower of the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots. Richard served his country as a Naval aviator having served in World War II and the Korean War. He was a night fighter pilot and instructed aviator cadets in the art of night instrument fighter warfare. He was the former Commander of the Navy & Marine Corps Reserve Training Center in Pittsfield, MA. Richard also was the owner and operator of Pace Vending formerly of Pittsfield. Son of the late Tadeusz and Helen Rutkowski, and husband of the late Julia Macchia Rutkowski, he is survived by his five children Victoria Longcor and her husband Robert, Renee Junewicz and husband J. Mark, Richard F. Rutkowski and his wife Graciela, Mark Rutkowski and his wife Amy, and Joseph Rutkowski. Also surviving are nine grandchildren Christian Junewicz, Nicolina, Pilar, Tabitha, Nina, Phoebe, Cade and Brady Rutkowski and Ashley Longcor and many nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Angels Church, 1733 S. Broad Street in Hamilton on Wednesday at 11 AM. Burial will be in Holy Sepulcher Cemetery in Hamilton. Family and friends may call on Tuesday from 5 to 7 PM and on Wednesday from 9:30 to 10:30 AM at Poulson & Van Hise Funeral Directors, 650 Lawrence Road, Lawrenceville.
