Please share a memory of Edward to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Edward “Eddie” J. Sweeney, IV, 57, of Lawrenceville, NJ, passed away on Monday, June 26, 2023 as a result of a tragic auto accident. Born in 1966 in Chester, PA, Eddie was a longtime resident of Lawrence Twp, NJ. Eddie graduated from Lawrence High School where he made his mark as a standout scholar athlete. Those who knew Eddie would remember him for his intelligence, kindness, loyal friendships, and athletic successes as football team co-captain and track & field record holder. Eddie continued his education and joined the football team at Georgia Tech, residing in Atlanta for several years while pursuing his passion working in the field of personal development and coaching. In 1997, Eddie welcomed the birth of his son, Robert Joseph Sterling LeFevre. He loved his son and worked hard to be a good father. Eddie showed pride in Robert’s own athletic accomplishments as he enjoyed sporting Robert’s #43 Marshall University football jersey. Connection to family eventually brought Eddie back to NJ where his enthusiasm for helping others led him to a long-standing career in the hospitality industry. He earned a reputation for dedicated service, kindness, and creative problem solving in his work as assistant night manager at Princeton’s Nassau Inn. A long time member of the American Poolplayers Association, Eddie enjoyed competition and success, including competing in the APA championships, as captain of his aptly named team, Nice Guys Finish 1st. Active in the pool community, he was known as a genuine great guy, a welcomed opponent, and a sought out vendor of pool cues. Predeceased by grandparents Anna and Richard Oliver and Edward and Mabel Sweeney, uncle Jeffrey Sweeney, and aunt Linda Sarzynski. He is survived by his son Robert Lefevre, mother Amy Sweeney, father Edward Sweeney III, stepmother Mary Lou Sweeney, sisters Kelly Sweeney and Meghan Harrison, brother in-law Bucky Harrison, niece Ava, nephew Liam, beloved aunts, uncle, and cousins. Eddie will be dearly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. His kind heart filled the room with warmth, he was quick to offer a lending hand, and he welcomed everyone. We witnessed his generosity, positivity, and eagerness to help others. It can and will inspire all of us to do the same. Although his physical presence may be gone, his spirit will live on through the love he gave, his genuine humanity, and the lasting memories he created. Visitation for Eddie will be held on Saturday morning July 1, 2023 from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. at Poulson & Van Hise Funeral Directors, 650 Lawrence Road, Lawrenceville, NJ 08648.
