Obituary of Shirley Joan Smith

Shirley Joan Smith, 86, of Ewing, passed away on Sunday, August 2, 2020 at Capital Health Medical Center, Hopewell. Born in Trenton, NJ, she was a resident of Ewing for 57 years. Shirley was a graduate of Trenton Central High School, Westminster Choir College of Princeton and obtained her master’s degree from Trenton State College. She retired from the Mill Store in Yardley, PA after many years of dedicated service. Shirley was a longtime member of Bethany Evangelical Lutheran Church in Ewing, where she was the choir director, a pianist and organist and handbell director for many years. She was a member of the Daughter’s of the American Revolution, the Mayflower Society, the Princeton Opera Association and the PJB Association. Predeceased by her parents John and Marian Brown; she is survived by her husband Herman I. Smith; her children and their spouses Teri D. and Gary Marszalek, Joel H. Smith, April L. and Paul J. Marino, and Timothy L. and Sheri Smith; her sister Lynda C. Leeper; nine grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, two nephews and six great-nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held privately and at the convenience of the family. Per Shirley’s wishes, her body was donated to Temple Medical School and her cremated remains will be inurned at a later date.
