George Patrick McCormick, 85, of Lawrenceville, NJ passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, January 17th surrounded by his loving family.
He was a longtime Lawrence resident having moved to the township in 1966. Born in Madison, Wisconsin, George was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin, Madison with a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering and received his master’s degree in Industrial Engineering from Lehigh University. He had worked for over 35 years in the telecommunications-engineering field for AT&T and retired in 1990 from Lucent Technologies as a computer systems engineer. He was active in the Delaware Valley Business Club of AMBUCS and later enjoyed his time at the Lawrence Senior Center. Being from Wisconsin, George loved being outdoors. He was an accomplished ice skater and enjoyed sledding with his children. He was an avid gardener, spending most of his summers tending to his vegetables and was an early advocate of recycling and a farm-to-table lifestyle. He was a lover of history and delighted in the “treasures” he found at antique auctions. Always appreciating a laugh, George was quick with a joke or a funny story. His priority was always his family and he especially enjoyed their time together at the Jersey shore and coastal Maine. His day was never complete without a bowl of ice cream.
