I have been blessed to share 50 years with Mom. She was loving, kind and generous to all her family. She gave birth to five children all about one year apart. Four boys and a girl. Her family grew adding spouses, grandchildren and great grandchildren but there was never a lack of love Mom cherished holidays and we spent many hours at her home with an abundance of Christmas gifts and a huge holiday meal. Desserts were Christmas cookies, fruit cake with pecans (her favorite) and an assortment of chocolates with nuts, of course. Going to visit on Easter day, the finery was little girls in dresses with shiny shoes and little boys with suits and ties. The children were very excited to see what the Easter Bunny brought for them to Nanny's house. The grandchildren all loved the Egg Hunt. Plastic eggs filled with candy and coins and the Grand Prize of one dollar! Our dinner was prepared by Mom with a huge Lancaster ham, and all the fixins', kielbasa her sons made or purchased from the Polish market. Daughter Christine would be sure to bring Babka (Polish cheese or cinnamon bread) and large seeded and non seeded rye bread and the snowflake rolls, Mom thought were best. The lamb butter and pickled eggs were always part of the meal. One year someone cut the tail off the lamb butter, I wonder who? Perhaps it was to butter fresh rolls! Every Birth, Birthday, Communion, Confirmation, Graduation, Wedding, Anniversary, or funeral was acknowledged and remember by our Nanny Dot. We will love and miss you, I am grateful for these thoughts and many more. Rest in Peace, Love Linda and son Bruce and family too!
