Obituary of Edward J. McGrath, III
Edward J. McGrath, III, 77, of Lawrenceville and Ocean City, NJ died suddenly on Tuesday at Shore Memorial Hospital in Somers Point, NJ.
Born in Trenton, Ed was raised in Lawrenceville and resided there his entire life. A proud graduate from Trenton Catholic, Class of 1958 he continued his education and graduated from Rider College in 1963. That same year he began his career with the New Jersey Manufacturers Insurance Company where he remained for 40 years retiring in 2003 as Assistant Treasurer.
An avid golfer, Ed also enjoyed gardening and yard work along with coaching baseball and soccer in Lawrence Township for many years. During his years of coaching, he captured a boys soccer State Cup Championship and the District 1 Babe Ruth Ball Championship in 1984 for Lawrence Township. He also coached Post 414 American Legion for numerous years.
Son of the late Edward J. McGrath Jr. and Martha King McGrath, he is survived by his wife of 54 years, Janice L. Hancock McGrath; his sons, Bryan T. McGrath and his wife Maureen and Robert McGrath and his wife Christine; his grandchildren, Ryan, Jenna, Nolyn and Jayne McGrath; his brothers and sisters, William McGrath and wife Mary Ellen, Martha Carroll and her husband Richard, Linda Renegar and her husband Courtney, Dennis McGrath and his wife Nancy, Donna McGrath and Patricia Feeney along with many nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Ed on Tuesday at 10 AM at the Church of St. Ann, 1253 Lawrence Road, Lawrenceville, NJ 08648. Burial will follow in the Lawrenceville Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Monday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 PM at Poulson & Van Hise Funeral Directors, 650 Lawrence Road, Lawrenceville, NJ. There will be no calling hours at the funeral home on Tuesday prior to mass.
