Mark Jeffrey Sherman, 73, of Lawrenceville, passed away on Wednesday, May 10, 2017 at Capital Health Medical Center, Hopewell.
Born in New York City, NY, he was a longtime area resident. Mark earned a BA degree from Hunter College and studied photography at the School of Visual Arts and the New School for Social Research in New York. Mark is a Veteran who served his country with the United States Marine Corps. He taught photography in New York City and Princeton, NJ. Mark was an award-winning photographer with over 35 years’ experience. His passion was animals, wild and domestic. His distinctive portraits of dogs and cats, pets and their pet owners were both imaginative and effective in portraying the personalities of the subjects. Published widely in books, newspapers and magazines worldwide, Mark was a staff photographer for the Times of Trenton for nearly 20 years. He began his photojournalism career in Northern Ireland and went to cover the tumultuous 70’s as well as two decades of presidential campaigns. Mark’s work appeared in Time, Newsweek and Life magazines. For 7 years he had a studio in Manhattan where he was primarily involved with portraits of entertainment personalities. He was Director of Photography for TV Showpeople, a magazine about the entertainment industry. He created photography for two books: All My Afternoons and The Soap Opera Book. A prolific photographer, Mark traveled extensively, producing work in 24 countries.
He is survived by his wife Maryanne Sherman, his dog Alphie, two cats Sushi and Max and assorted Koi fish.
Funeral services will be held privately and at the convenience of the family.
