Melvin J. Markert passed away peacefully at his home in Levittown, Pa on Monday, August 17 at the age of 92.
Born and raised in Philadelphia he served in the Army Air Corps in Europe during World War II, attended Temple University and graduated with honors with a degree in Education. He taught for thirty years in the Bristol Township school district. An avid music lover and singer he was a member of the Delaware Valley Choral Society for many years.
Husband of the late Alma Markert, he is survived by his children and their companions: Donna and Ken Lannan of Mill Hall; Donald Markert and Sandy Bingle of Levittown; Gail and Mike Garry of Scranton; and Lou Markert of New York; grandchildren: Harry, Kelly, Virginia, Holly, Jackie, Melanie, Jeremy; and several great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 21 at 1 PM at the James J. Dougherty Funeral Home, 2200 Trenton Road, Levittown. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, Huntingdon Valley.
Relatives and friends may call on Thursday from 7 to 9 PM at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in his name may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
