Doris Morrison, 99, of Lawrenceville died peacefully Friday at St. Joseph’s Skilled Nursing Unit at Morris Hall. Born in Trenton, Doris resided in her family home in Lawrenceville for the past 99 years. She was a graduate of Trenton High School, Rider College and the American Arts School in Fontainebleau, France and studied under famed French composer, Robert Casadesus. She retired in 1975, after 36 years of service, from the State of NJ, Department of Banking and Insurance, as an administrative assistant. Doris was a long time member of St. Joseph’s R.C. Church, the Altar Rosary Society, served as a Eucharistic Minister and was the church organist. In addition she played the organ at many other Trenton area catholic churches. She attended daily Mass at the Church of St. Ann in Lawrenceville for many years and was a member of the Jesus Prince of Peace Prayer Group for many years as well. Having completed 50 years of living the Gospel way of life in the spirit of St. Francis of Assisi, Doris was recognized as a Jubilarian member of the Secular Franciscan Order in October of 2007. Doris’s life and spirituality served as an example to everyone with who she came in contact. Doris’s friendly face and quick wit will be sorely missed by her many, many friends throughout the area. Daughter of the late Charles and Anna Dupay Morrison and cousin of the late Jack Merkel; Doris is survived by her cousins, Jack Smith of Lawrenceville, Donald Smith of Pennington, Elizabeth Merkel of Birmingham Alabama and Pamela Merkel Sayle and her husband Carter and their children, Zachary, Logan and Reid of Hoover, Alabama. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 12:30 PM at the Church of St. Ann, 1253 Lawrence Rd., Lawrenceville. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Hamilton. Friends may call on Tuesday from 10 AM until 12 Noon at Poulson & Van Hise Funeral Directors, 650 Lawrence Road, Lawrenceville, NJ In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate masses in her memory.
