Claude P. Emerson, 70, of Trenton died suddenly on Saturday, October 25, 2014 at Capital Health Regional Medical Center in Trenton. Claude was born in Milford, CT to the late Kate and Ralph Emerson. He was raised in Vermont and joined the U.S. Army at the age of 17. He served his country during the Viet Nam Conflict, received several commendations and was honorably discharged. He was a resident of Trenton for over 40 years. He was a retired employee of the Lawrence Township School Board and served as the Head Custodian at the Slackwood Elementary School for many years before retiring in 2006. Claude was an avid fisherman and hunter and was a former member of the Beaver Dam Hunting and Fishing Club. He was a member of the V.F.W. Post 3022, Men’s Auxiliary and was a member of American Legion Post 314 of Ewing. Claude is survived by his beloved wife of over 20 years, Christine V. Emerson; a daughter, Michelle Scheffler and husband Wayne of Port Orange, FL; his son, Michael Emerson of Lawrenceville; his six grandchildren, Brandon, Drew, Ryan, Dale, Stephanie and Matthew all of Port Orange, FL; a great-grandson, Cody; his mother-in-law, Dorothy V. Brodbeck; three brothers-in-law, Gary Brodbeck, Bruce Brodbeck and his wife Linda and Glen Brodbeck and his wife Nancy; a sister-in-law, Sandra Brodbeck and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Claude was also predeceased by his brother-in-law, George Brodbeck. Funeral services for Claude will be held on Wednesday, October 29, 2014 at 12 Noon at Poulson & Van Hise Funeral Directors, 650 Lawrence Road, Lawrenceville. The Rev. Janet Ellis will officiate. Relatives and friends may call on Wednesday from 10 AM until time of service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate memorial contributions may be made to V.F.W. Post 3022, Men’s Auxiliary, 736 Cherry Tree Lane, Lawrenceville, NJ 08648.
