Samuel A. Emma, 79, of Ewing, died Friday Oct. 3, 2008 at Princeton Medical Center following a brief illness. Born in 1929 in Pittston, Pa., he was a resident of the Trenton area since the early 1950s. Sam retired from American Biltrite/Amtico Flooring in Trenton in 1991. He was previously employed by Keystone Structural Steel in Ewing. Also a trained professional chef, he cooked at Landwehr’s Restaurant in West Trenton, Pine Brea Country Club, Princeton and Hopewell Valley Golf Club, Hopewell. He was a veteran of the Korean conflict, where he served as a staff sergeant in the 223rd Infantry Regiment of the 40th Army Division. A devoted husband, father and grandfather, he was a parishioner of the Church of St. Ann, a 3rd Degree Member of Knights of Columbus Council 3756 and a member of the Elks Lodge 105. An active league bowler in the greater Trenton area since the 1950s, Slocum’s in Ewing was his home alley. He was inducted to the Mercer-Burlington Bowling Association Hall of Fame in 1990. Sam bowled at Slocum’s 50 years, for which the Slocum family awarded him formal recognition in 1994. He was predeceased by his parents, Angelo and Margaret Terrano Emma and his eldest brother, Carmel Emma, all of Pittston, Pa. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Marie (nee Moscarello); sisters Gertrude Belotti, Old Forge, Pa., Grace Hazenski, Pittston, Pa. and Angeline Jasinski, Pittston, Pa; brothers Joseph Emma, Pittston, Pa. and John Emma, Doylestown, Pa.; daughter and son-in-law Karen and Frederick Romanowsky, Ewing; son Kenneth C. Emma, Lawrenceville; daughter and son-in-law Michele and Dennis Ionata, Columbus, N.J.; son and daughter-in-law Salvatore “Sam” and Elizabeth Coleman Emma, Petersburg, N.J.; grandchildren Amy and Robert Valentino and Michael Romanowsky of Ewing and Gordon and Margaret Emma of Petersburg, N.J.; one great-granddaughter, Peyton Valentino and many wonderful nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at noon, Wednesday, Oct. 8, at the Church of St. Ann, 1253 Lawrence Rd., Lawrenceville. Burial will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Hamilton Township. Family and friends may call Wednesday from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m., at Poulson & Van Hise Funeral Directors, 650 Lawrence Rd., Lawrenceville. In lieu of gifts or flowers, the family has requested donations made in Sam’s memory to the Church of St. Ann Faith Development Center.
