Barbara D. Jackson Schwarz was born on December 9, 1927 to Phoebe Collins Jackson and Lester W Jackson. She died on April 2, 2014 at St Joseph’s Skilled Nursing Facility/Morris Hall in Lawrenceville, New Jersey. Barbara’s family can trace her heritage back to General Sooey of the Revolutionary War. Barbara was raised and educated in Springfield, Pennsylvania, a suburb of Philadelphia, where she met and married Walter W. Schwarz. Barbara and Walter, who died in 2002, had five children to whom they were devoted. The oldest, Barbara Vanderkolk Gardner, lived s with her husband Tom and son Jordan in Princeton and now in Sarasota, Florida. Daughter Debbie Healy also lives in Sarasota and has three grown children: Jon, Jennifer and Bill.y. Daughter Nancy Crisci and her husband Ron live in Bucks County, Pennsylvania; their young adult daughters, Lauren and Anna live nearby. Daughter Phoebe Moore and her husband Brian, with son Nick and daughter Brianna, live in Woodstock, Georgia. The youngest, Walter Stephen Schwarz, lives with his son, Stephen, in Sarasota, Florida. Barbara is also survived by her sister, Geraldine Welty, and her sister’s children, Claire, Celeste, and Carl, and their families; and by her niece Lora Jane Lisle and her family. Barbara’s other two sisters, Lenore Wood and Jane Harvey, and nephew William Wood, predeceased her. In addition to her family, Barbara loved gardening and crafts. She worked for a time as a professional floral designer. She enjoyed traveling, reading and following the political scene. She held strong opinions on a variety of topics. While her physical body suffered many serious ailments over more than a decade, her mind stayed sharp until the day she passed away from complications of COPD. Relatives and friends can call on Saturday April 5, 2014 from 10:30-11AM at Poulson & Van Hise Funeral Directors, 650 Lawrence Road, Lawrenceville, NJ 08648. A funeral service will follow at 11AM at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Morris Hall Foundation.
