Stuart G. Crane, 83, passed away peacefully in Newtown, Pennsylvania on January 18th. Born in Far Rockaway, New York, he grew up in the Bronx as the only child of Benjamin Crane and Sacy Louis Crane. After graduating from New York University in 1952, he began a life-long career as a Wall Street analyst. In 2006, he retired from A. R. Schmeidler & Company in Manhattan as Vice President of Research and a Certified Financial Analyst. He lived in Yardley, Pennsylvania since 1959 with his loving wife of 57 years, Barbara Crane. He enjoyed family life, swimming, fly fishing, ham radio, and cultural and adventure travels world-wide. He spent his summer weekends sailing in Barnegat Bay and the Atlantic, and he taught classes on celestial navigation. He was a voracious reader and spent many peaceful hours perusing the New York Times in his wooded backyard among the birds and wildlife. He was active in political debate and was the pioneer male in the League of Women Voters of Bucks County. He touched many lives with his humor, sharp wit, intellectually-engaging conversations, and infectious laughter. Stuart Crane is survived by his wife, Barbara Crane, of Yardley, Pennsylvania; his daughter, Susan Crane, and her partner, Mark Roberts, of Stow, Massachusetts; his daughter, Patricia Crane Magie, and son-in-law Robert Magie, of London, England; and his four grandchildren, Benjamin Cmejla, Daniel Cmejla, William Magie, and Jennifer Magie. The family will be holding a private memorial service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Sudbury Valley Trustees, a land trust protecting conservation lands, 18 Wolbach Road, Sudbury, Massachusetts 01776.
