Obituary of Vito Gioia

Vito Salvatore Gioia, 84, of Lawrenceville passed away quietly on Thursday, January 16, 2014 at Spring Village at Floral Vale, Yardley, Pa. Born in Brooklyn, New York Vito was a resident of Lawrenceville since 1962. His parents emigrated from Sicily in the early 1900’s. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army as a Master Sergeant and was honorably discharged after serving two tours during the Korean Conflict. Vito was a Master meat cutter during his youth into his early adulthood. He attended Eastern District High School and Rider College. Vito was an avid hunter, fisherman and target shooter and loved the outdoors. He loved hunting with his late brothers Joseph Gioia and Gene Di Maria. His longtime friend Len Bucchino was with him during numerous hunting trips across the country and Canada. Vito later turned his energies into business and was an independent insurance broker in the greater Trenton area for over thirty years. He owned and operated the Vic Gioia Insurance Agency on Olden Avenue in Trenton prior to his retiring. Son of the late Giacomo and Mary Gioia and husband of the late Josephine Rinaldi Gioia, he is survived by his son, Jack Gioia and his wife Patricia; his former daughter-in-law, Mary Jane Gioia and his granddaughters, Lori Gioia and Kim Baxter and her husband Will and many loving nieces and nephews. He was a loving and devoted Husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend. Funeral services for Vito will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2014 beginning at 10 AM at Poulson & Van Hise Funeral Directors, 650 Lawrence Road, Lawrenceville, NJ. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM at the Church of St. Ann, Lawrenceville. Burial will follow in Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery, Hamilton. Friends and relatives may call on Friday from 6 to 8 PM at the funeral home.
