C. Margaret “Peg” Donelly, 87, of Lawrenceville died peacefully at home on Sunday. Born in Providence, Rhode Island, Peg was a resident of Lawrenceville for over 55 years. Peg graduated from the Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Providence in 1947. Upon graduation she entered into the United States Army Nursing Corps, was commissioned a second lieutenant and was honorably discharged after her service. She had a great voice and was a nightclub singer in her early years. After her marriage to her late husband, Peg became an active mom, volunteering in her children’s schools. She especially enjoyed her term as chair of the Parents’ Association at the Hun School of Princeton. Her favorite pastime was vacationing with her grandchildren in Rhode Island and Cape Cod. She became involved with politics, earning the Mercer County Republican Woman of the Year Award. Peg was a past Vice Chair of the Mercer County Republicans and was proud of her significant role as a robust supporter of Rep. Chris Smith from the very beginning of his political career. Daughter of the late Arthur and Florence Murphy O’Neil and wife of the late Norbert E. Donelly, she is survived by her children, Norbert P. Donelly and his wife Ann; Naurene M. Antoniotti, Patricia A. Gilbert and Michael S. Donelly and his wife Daria; her beloved grandchildren, Amory, Katie, Rogan, Michael, Kevin, Sean, Megan, Kyle, Christian, Bailey, Laura, and Matthew; and her two great-grandchildren, Eugenie and Peter. A gathering of family and friends will take place on Thursday, January 9th from 11AM until 1 PM at Poulson & Van Hise Funeral Directors, 650 Lawrence Road, Lawrenceville.
