Obituary of Jean R. Scudder

Jean Rockwell Scudder, 92, of Pennington, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, Sept. 12, 2013, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Cleveland, OH, she was a resident of Pennington since 1928. She was a graduate of Southern Seminary in Buena Vista, VA. Prior to retirement, she was employed by Rockwell Manufacturing Company in Hopewell before becoming a fashion model with the John Robert Powers Agency in New York City, and, later, a real estate broker with Thompson Realty in Princeton. She served her country during World War II as an ambulance driver with the American Women's Volunteer Service. Jean attended the Christian Science Church in Princeton and Pennington. A former member of the Mercer County Association of Realtors, she was, with her late husband and as his widow, a member of the Society of The Cincinnati in the state of New Jersey. Daughter of the late Herbert S. and Edith Green Rockwell; wife of the late John Montgomery Scudder Jr.; sister of the late Robert F. Rockwell; and grandmother of the late Allison Fawcett, she is survived by a brother, Richard H. Rockwell; her son and daughter-in-law, Steele R. and Karen Chadwell; stepdaughter and son-in-law, Ann Scudder Smith and Ralph B. Smith; stepson, John Montgomery Scudder III; grandchildren, Cynthia Leigh Chadwell, James Rockwell Chadwell, William Bladt, Amanda Bladt, Jason Scudder, and Jeffrey Scudder; and great-grandchildren, Olivia Fawcett and Allison Bladt. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, Sept. 21, at 11 a.m. at Highland Cemetery, Hopewell, NJ. There will be no calling hours.
