Maria Di Sanzo, 71, of Lawrenceville, passed away on Saturday, August 3rd at Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia. Born in Saracena, Italy, she had been a Lawrenceville resident since 1982, after spending 15 years in Medina, New York (near Buffalo). Daughter of the late Gabriele Viola, she is survived by her husband Carmine Di Sanzo, her children: Joseph Di Sanzo, and Rose Bernard and her husband Michael, her mother Anna Saniota Viola, her brother, Vincenzo Viola and his wife Elisa, her sister-in-law, Domenica Siciliano and her husband Italo, her brother-in-law, Frank Di Sanzo and his wife Christina, as well as her five nieces: Anna, Gabriella, Maria, Fabiana and Tiffany. Maria was an early childhood teacher before coming to the United States in 1969. She was a devoted, nurturing mother and loving wife. She had a passion for cooking and always tried new recipes for her family. She enjoyed the beach as well as embroidery, creating beautiful pieceworks. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 11 a.m. at The Church of St. Ann, 1253 Lawrence Road, Lawrenceville. Entombment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery Mausoleum. Friends may call on Wednesday afternoon from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 9 p.m. at Poulson & Van Hise Funeral Directors, 650 Lawrence Road, Lawrenceville. Memorial donations may be made to the American Lung Association at www.lung.org.
