Mary E. Sherrier, 85, of Lawrenceville, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 21, 2013 at St. Joseph’s Skilled Nursing at Morris Hall, Lawrenceville, NJ. Born in Berwyn, IL, she grew up in Westfield, NJ, and resided in Florida for many years before moving to Lawrenceville 9 years ago. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Education in 1970 from Kean College and took great pride in teaching elementary school for many years in Roselle, New Jersey. Mary retired in 1989 from New York Life, where she was employed as a claims examiner. In her retirement, Mary continued her teaching vocation by teaching in Trinitarian Mission Schools in Mississippi and Alabama. She also enjoyed working for several years at Disney World. Mary was an avid traveler and was very proud that she had visited all 50 States and four continents. Mary had a love of crafts and sewing and enjoyed displaying her work; her grandchildren are comforted by the blankets and other crafts they received from Grandma over the years. Mary also passed down her passion for reading to her children and grandchildren; she could be found with a good mystery in her hands until the day of her passing. Mary was a Parishioner at St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Church. She was a member of the Altar Rosary Society, St. Ann’s Volunteers and the Third Order Dominican Sisters. Mary is survived by her brothers Fred and Leo Eckmann; her children and their spouses Patricia and Carmine Battinelli, Tom and Kandi Sherrier, Ed and Mary Beth Sherrier, Jack and Doreen Sherrier, Joe and Cherie Sherrier, and Kay Sherrier and Mike Canavan; 15 grandchildren and 2 great granddaughters. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 11:30AM at St. Ann’s Church, 1253 Lawrenceville Road, Lawrenceville, NJ 08548. There will be no calling hours. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Hamilton, NJ. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Morris Hall Foundation 1 Bishops Drive, Lawrenceville, NJ 08648.
