Mildred Dorothy Smith Palmere, 100, of Lawrenceville died Friday at the Lawrenceville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Born in Trenton, she was a lifelong resident of Lawrence Township. She was a Charter Member and Past-President of the Colonial Lakeland Ladies Club and the Slackwood Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary, Charter Member and Secretary/Treasurer of the Lawrence Senior Citizens Club 2. Mrs. Palmere was a Charter Member of the Normandy Beach Yacht Club in Normandy Beach, NJ. She was also a former member of the Ashlar Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. She taught 4H at the Slackwood School. Mildred was the daughter of late William and Lena Smith and the wife of the late Michael D. Palmere, former owner of Mercer Motor Freight, Inc. and grandmother of the late Michael Tod Palmere. She was the sister of the late Viola Pezza, Verna Fawcet, Evelyn Baker, Melba Bates Evans, Jean Bartolomei Manfredi and Raymond, Wilfred, Richard, William, and Donald Smith. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Vincent and Martha Palmere, three daughters and sons-in-laws, Phyllis and Thomas Bailey, Darlene Byrne and Elvin Byrne, and Merle and Gilbert VanHouten, and eight grandchildren, Michael Bailey and Thomas (Cathy) Bailey, Robyn Bailey (Thomas) Balmer, Bethanne Byrne, Brenda Byrne (John) Gladwell, Debora Byrne, Amy VanHouten (Christopher) Moran, Dana VanHouten (Harold) Griffith, and ten great-grandchildren, Blair, Drew, Kyle, and Megan Bailey, Thomas and Bailey Balmer, Brianna and Casey Gladwell, Emma Byrne, Meaghan and Riley Moran, Nathaniel Griffith, one brother, Robert Smith and two sisters, Lucielle Sullivan and Marian Tallon. Private family services will be held with the Rev. Jack C. Belmont, Rector, of St. Matthews Episcopal Church, Pennington, officiating. Burial will follow in the Ewing Cemetery. Memorial contributions in Mildred's name can be made to St. Matthews Episcopal Church, 300 S. Main St., Pennington, NJ 08534
