Robert L. Putnam, 78, of Levittown, PA died peacefully on Friday, March 15 at St. Mary’s Medical Center, Langhorne, PA. Born in Trenton Robert has been an original resident of Levittown for the past 55 years. He was employed by NJ Bell, now Verizon, for 34 years before retiring as a supervisor in 1986. He then was employed with the Bucks County Intermediate Unit for 12 years before finally retiring in 2000. Robert was a member of the 1st United Methodist Church of Fairless Hills where he served as Chairman of the Administrative Board for several years. He was also a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America and the Penn Wireless Radio Club. He also enjoyed spending time at his home in the Poconos and boating in Lake Wallenpaupack. Son of the late Arthur and Alice Butterfoss Putnam, he is survived by his wife, Sandra McElree Putnam; his sons, Lee Putnam and his wife Mercy of the Island of Guam and Bill Putnam and his wife Sharon of York Beach, Maine; his sister, Gail Edwards and her husband Wayne of Lawrenceville; his grandchildren, Christopher, Matthew, Alleria, Michael, Timothy and Joseph; and his nephews, Paul and David Edwards. Funeral services for Robert will be held on Friday at 11 AM at the First United Methodist Church of Fairless Hills, 840 Trenton Road, Fairless Hills, Pa. Burial will follow in Colonial Memorial Park, Hamilton, NJ. Friends may call on Thursday from 6 to 8 PM at Poulson & Van Hise Funeral Directors, 650 Lawrence Road, Lawrenceville, NJ 08648 and again on Friday from 10 to 11 AM at the church. Memorial contributions in Robert’s name may be made to either the First United Methodist Church or to the Telecom Pioneers, P.O. Box 3213, Toms River, NJ 08756-3213.
