Obituary of Lawrence C. Stevenson

Lawrence Stevenson, 74, of Lawrence Township, peacefully passed away on December 21st, at home, with his family at his side. Born in Trenton, he resided most of his life in Lawrence Township. He attended Lawrence Public Schools and graduated from Trenton High School. He served in the U.S. Army, New Jersey National Guard and was honorably discharged; was Dealer-Proprietor of Stevenson’s Tire Sunoco on Lawrence Road; and retired from employment with the East Windsor Board of Education. In addition to his devotion to his family, he had a lifelong love of baseball as a fan, player, coach and manager. He played for the championship Post 93 Trenton Schroths in the 1950’s and managed the semi-pro Koenig Oiler’s in the 1960’s. He coached Lawrence Little League and managed Senior Babe Ruth in the 1970’s. He was the manager of the Lawrence Township Post 414 American Legion Baseball team for nineteen years. Predeceased by his parents Charles and Frances Stevenson, he is survived by his loving wife of forty-four years, Diane; his beloved son, L. Scott Stevenson and daughter-in-law, Julia of Yardville, N.J.; his sister Patricia Stevenson and her Partner Jim Telles of Ruskin, FL.; a sister Nancy Stevenson of Bloomington, MN.; a sister-in-law Maryann Waldron and her husband Paul of Wilmington, N.C.; his nephews William Farhet of Burnsville, MN. and Christopher Farhet and wife Michele of Columbia Heights, MN. A private family gathering and celebration of his life will be held at a later date. In lieu of contributions, the family requests that those that knew Larry, respected him or loved him are asked to keep his memory alive.
