Robert Marvin Clifton Harris Jr., 94, of Lawrenceville, died Wednesday at home from complications of Parkinsons. Born in Richmond, VA he had resided in Lawrenceville for forty-nine years. Bob retired in 1987 from Union Camp Corporation. He began his career with Wortendyke Manufacturing in Richmond, Va. in 1946. After a merger with Camp Paper, Bob moved the family to Chatham, NJ in 1959 where he was Technical Director for the Product Development Lab in Hoboken. Another merger with Union Bag formed Union Camp Corp. and brought Bob to Lawrenceville in 1962 where he was a Research Scientist in the new Research and Development Division. He received his Bachelors in Chemistry from the University of Richmond in 1938. He served as a Navy recruiter in Richmond and Springfield, MA prior to WWII. Bob served in the United States Navy as a Lieutenant Commander during WWII in both the Atlantic and Pacific Theaters. He was a beach master on Omaha Beach on D-Day June 6th, 1944. Over the years, he served as deacon, member of the session and choir at The Presbyterian Church of Lawrenceville. After retiring, Bob enjoyed playing golf at the Lawrenceville School most every morning. He also sang with the Silvertones, was a member of the Lawrence Township Senior Citizens Club #5 and volunteered with the Lawrence Township Meals on Wheels. Bob was a Freemason with the Grand Lodge of Virginia for 70 years. Son of the late Robert M.C. Harris Sr. and Ruth Hartley Harris, he is survived by his son Marvin L. Harris of Ewing, NJ, brother James Hartley Harris and his wife Sue of Kilmarnock, VA, sister Betsy Thompson of /Winston-Salem, NC, sister-in-law Hazel Harris and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his wife, Grace Jones Harris and two brothers, Charles and Tom. Family and friends may call on Tuesday from 5 to 8 PM at Poulson & Van Hise Funeral Directors, 650 Lawrence Road, Lawrenceville. Funeral services for Bob will be held on Wednesday at 10 AM at The Presbyterian Church of Lawrenceville, 2688 Main Street, Lawrenceville with internment to follow at 11:00 am in the Lawrenceville Cemetery. Memorial contributions in Bob’s memory may be made to The Presbyterian Church of Lawrenceville.
