Julia Rutkowski, 87, of Lambertville, died on Wednesday at Hunterdon Medical Center in Flemington. Born in Ardmore, PA and a former resident of Pittsfield MA, she had resided in Lambertville since moving there in 2000. Mrs. Rutkowski graduated from Hamilton High School class of 1941 and earned her bachelors degree in physical education from Temple University class of 1945. She taught for a few years at Allentown High School. Mrs. Rutkowski was an accomplished lacrosse and field hockey player at Hamilton High School and Temple University and was a proficient equestrienne. While residing in Pittsfield she was an active member of St. Theresa’s Church. She organized the church’s first Christmas Bazaar, and participated in many more in the following years. Daughter of the late Camillo and Mary Roberts Macchia, and sister of the late Elizabeth Speciale, she is survived by her husband, Richard Rutkowski, her five children; Victoria Longcor and her husband Robert, Renee Junewicz and her husband J. Mark, Richard F. Rutkowski and his wife Graciela, Mark Rutkowski and his wife Amy and Joseph Rutkowski, her 9 grandchildren; Christian Junewicz, Nicolina, Pilar, Tabitha, Nina, Phoebe, Cade, and Brady Rutkowski and Ashley Longcor, her brother Dr. Angelo Macchia and his wife Mary Jane, and several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 11 AM at Holy Angels R.C. Church, 1733 South Broad Street, Hamilton. Burial will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Cedar Lane, Hamilton.. Friends may call on Friday from 6 to 8 PM and on Saturday from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM at Poulson & Van Hise Funeral Directors, 650 Lawrence Road Lawrenceville. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in Julia’s name to Alzheimer’s Association Greater New Jersey, 400 Morris Avenue, Suite 251, Denville, NJ 07834.
