Frank F. Firlan, 95, died Wednesday at the Lawrenceville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Born in Pittsburgh, PA., and a former resident of Hamilton Township, he resided most of his life in Trenton. As a young man, Frank was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates and played for three years in their farm system. He was a machinist for the Star Service Hanger Company in Pittsburgh and later worked as a welder at the Philadelphia Naval Yard. After he moved to the Trenton area, he drove a taxi for a variety of local taxi services until he started his own cab company. Frank was a golf enthusiast and was a former member of the Yardley Country Club's, ""Earmuff Club"". He was an avid bowler but his greatest pleasure was horse racing. Son of the late Frank and Barbara Firlan, husband of the late Jean Carney Firlan, brother of the late Ann Williams and Murph Firlan, he is survived by four sons, Frank Firlan, Robert Firlan and his wife Peggy, James Firlan and his wife Elaine, William Firlan and his wife Joy, three daughters JoAnnDeMontigny, Barbara Knoblock, and Patricia Durastanti and her husband Nick. Also surviving are fourteen grandchildren including, Robert Knoblock and his wife Laura, Brian, and David Knoblock, Nicholas Durastanti and his wife Elizabeth, Leah Durastanti, Blake and Connor Firlan, eighteen great grandchildren, sisters-in-law, Rose Firlan, Lydia Sabo, Betty Lou Har-Hash, Susie Carney and Jean Carney, a brother-in-law Donald Carney and many nieces and nephews. The funeral will be held on Tuesday at 10 AM from Poulson & Van Hise Funeral Directors, 650 Lawrence Road Lawrenceville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM at St. Anthony’s R.C. Church, in Hamilton. Interment will be in the Greenwood Cemetery in Hamilton. Family and friends may call on Monday from 4 to 7 PM at the funeral home.
