Gerry was my supervisor at Ivy House in the 1970s.
Recently I have heard from many of the children we cared for on Facebook.
I decided to look Gerry up and found this sad obituary.
He was a good man, always positive and cared deeply about people.
Sorry that I missed him.
Condolences to his family.

For my 4yrs at Notre Dame, I can't say anyone meant more to me than Mr. Wargo. You can tell when some people weren't having favorable days, but Mr. Wargo was always so jovial. I had the honor or working under him as a manager for the football team when I got injured, and those laughs and jokes we shared will always be in my heart. My favorite memory is of Mr. Wargo taking the big chain I used to wear around my neck in school off of me, putting it on himself and walking around the school with it as if it was his accessory! lol Those are the moments that will always bring a huge smile to my face. I'm sorry I didn't get a chance to see him again. Notre Dame lost one of the biggest drawing points a school could have. My condolences to all of his friends and family. We love you Mr. Wargo.

My heart is broken into pieces of memories of all we shared/ Your love and inspiration will live within me forever. I look around our home and see you everywhere but the one place that is now empty besides my heart is your chair. You now have to help me thru these trying times and show me the right paths to start accepting my loss but you must also start to prepare my space with you hand in hand as we will meet again with our heaevly Father. be at peace my darling and know you did always take care of me and I know you will continue to from a place of love and peace. God be with you as I am with you everyday of the rest of my life.

Coach Wargo,
You were the one that discovered me when i was just a sophomore. You were the only one that believed in me when no one else did. We had an amazing 3 years together with baseball at ND and i am honored to be worthy enough to be called by you, your other grandson. There are so many stories I can share about you right now but there are way too many. You changed my life forever and I am very proud to be one of your Notre Dame son's. I love you coach.

Poppi, I remember so many wonderful things about you. Remember when we watched annie in the park together? I had so much fun that night watching your face with pride whenever chelsea or diane was on stage. I enjoyed watching you with cassidy when I would bring her to school. She loved when you would give her a dollar and a bear hug! Thank you pop for loving us as much as we loved you!! You will be truly missed. Love always and forever as high as the sky and as deep as the ocean! Kelly darcey

I am so incredibly thrilled that so many people love and care about my Poppi and have endless stories about how he was a Poppi to them. But I am completely honored that not only was he a Poppi to me, but I was the lucky one who got to call him my grandfather. And I am even more blessed that he was able to share stories, jokes, and memories with me these past 20 years (or as Poppi would argue, You are in your 21st year).
I love you, Poppi. And don't worry I am frying fish and baking cakes down here just the way you taught me.

My memories and thoughts of Jerry he inspired those around him to aim for thier highest potential, I loved talking to him at his dining room table about my kids and their future and about politics he was so passionate and i am a better person for knowing him. His love for his family, students and his pets was so vast it is hard to put into words but jerry was like john wayne to me strong, intelligent, compassionate and a true american. Jerry you will be dearly missed and always loved by those you touched forever. May Gods Arms hold you closely till we all meet again someday. My prayers and love are with the Wargo Family. God Bless

Uncle Jerry was a very funny guy. I remember when he mention to me, that he always wanted to play baseball with the Phillies. He will certainly play with them in Heaven. He was a great Uncle and a funny one. Even though, I didn't get to see him much, through my eyes, he will always be my Uncle Jerry. May you Rest in Peace Uncle Jerry!
