Obituary of Malcom Gourlay Bell

Malcolm Gourlay Bell, 71, of Lawrenceville died Thursday January 6, 2011 at home. He was born January 17, 1939 in Bellshill, Scotland and grew up in Cambuslang, Scotland. He attended Westbern Primary School and Cambuslang High School. He graduated from Glasgow Technical College during his apprenticeship at Redpath Brown and continued there as a journeyman. Malcolm was a template maker for bridges and developed the design for the Forth Road Bridge, a suspension bridge in east central Scotland connecting the capital city of Edinburgh, at South Queensferry, to Fife, at North Queensferry. Malcolm arrived in the United States in April 1965 and lived in the Westchester County, NY area for 23 years. He was employed as a Field Engineer for NCR Corporation for 28 years, retiring early and then continued to work for E. A. Pifer Company and Techniflex Corporation also as a Field Engineer. He retired fully in 2001 and spent his retirement years enjoying his hobbies of flower and vegetable gardening and wood working, building kitchen cabinets, wine racks, furniture and much more. He also enjoyed his many trips back to his native Scotland. Malcolm was a member of the West Jersey Scottish American Society and the Princeton Italian American Sportmans Club. He was predeceased by his parents James and Marion Gourlay Bell, his brother Andrew Bell, his sisters and brothers-in-law, Margaret and “Willy” Teleford and Cathy and Bill Petrie. Malcolm is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Cesina (Jessy) Pirone-Bell, his daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Kenneth Smith and his grandchildren, Brogan and Rory Smith all of Banton, Scotland; his sister-in-law, Elizabeth Bell of East Kilbride, Scotland; his mother-in-law, Vincenza Pirone; his brother-in-law, Mario Pirone; his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Margaret and Robert Cash all of Hamilton Square and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews in Hamilton Square and Scotland. Funeral services to celebrate Malcolm’s life will be held on Wednesday at 10:30 AM at the Slackwood Presbyterian Church, 2020 Brunswick Avenue, Lawrenceville with the Rev. Dawn Flippin, Pastor, officiating. Burial will be private. Friends and relatives may call on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM at Poulson & Van Hise Funeral Directors, 650 Lawrence Road, Lawrenceville.
