Shelah Solomon Hardy Obituary

Shelah Solomon Hardy, 59, of Lawrenceville passed away on Tuesday, Dec 21 after a long illness.

Born Jan 13, 1951 she was adopted by Nathaniel and Miriam Solomon of Queens, NY where she was raised.

Shelah graduated from Francis Lewis High School in Queens in 1969 and went on to matriculate at Ithaca College and Indiana University.

She met her husband, Charles Hardy, at summer camp where they were both counselors.

They were married on June 21, 1970 at Tavern on the Green in New York City.

The Hardys resided in Bloomington, IN for several years before moving to Lawrenceville in 1977. While in Indiana, Shelah was active in social work with youth and in animal rescue. Throughout her life she was involved in striving for international peace. From 1967 when she was a marshal at the massive October Peace March in Washington, DC through 2007 when she and her husband were co-coordinators of a peace vigil on the 4th anniversary of the war in Iraq at the Lawrence Library, her commitment to peace and social justice was unwavering.

The mother of 3, she exerted all possible energies to their upbringing and well-being. In addition, she tried to make a difference in the life of every child who came into her vicinity.

She survived by her husband, Charles, her son Sam and his wife Amelia, all of Lawrenceville, and her daughters Alexa and Molly, both currently of Asheville, NC.

There will be no services or calling hours at this time. Anyone wishing to honor her memory might find a way to brighten the life of a child, with a smile, a hug or a contribution of Children’s Home Society, Homefront or similar service organization helping those in need.
