John M. DiMonte, 85, of Princeton, died Tuesday at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in Hamilton. Born in Trenton, he was an area resident all of his life having resided in Princeton for fifty-eight years in the house he built himself. John was a retired bricklayer with Bricklayers & Allied Craft Workers Local #5. He was an Army veteran of World War II and the recipient of the Purple Heart, and the European-African-Middle Eastern Theatre Ribbon with three bronze stars. He served in the Naples-Foggia Campaign, the Rome-Arno Campaign, and the Southern France and German Campaigns. In 2006 the French Government awarded him the Legion of Honor in recognition of his service during the liberation of southern France. John was proud to have served at one time under the command of General George Patton. John was a member of the Lawrence Township Senior Citizens, the Catholic War Veterans Post # 314, and was a life member of the Joseph McNearney Disabled American Veterans Post #41. He enjoyed travels with his wife Marguerite to Ireland, Italy, Alaska and annual trips to Las Vegas. He became an avid golfer at the age of sixty and was a die hard Philadelphia Eagles fan. Son of the late Clemente and Angela Scandura DiMonte, and husband of the late Marguerite O’Mara DiMonte, he is survived by his sons Jack DiMonte, Joel DiMonte and his wife Suzanne, Greg DiMonte and his wife Claire, and a daughter Doreen DiMonte and her husband Dennis Ardell. Also surviving are three grandchildren Bryan, Jenna, and Paige DiMonte. The funeral will be held Saturday at 9 AM from Poulson & Van Hise Funeral Directors, 650 Lawrence Road, Lawrenceville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM at The Church of St. Ann in Lawrenceville. Entombment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery Mausoleum in Hamilton. Family and friends may call on Friday from 7 to 9 PM at the funeral home.
