Obituary of Anthony J. Cermele
Anthony J. Cermele, age 82, passed away after a short illness on October 30, 2024.
Tony was born on November 13, 1941 in New York City to Mark Cermele and Mary Leonic Cermele. He lived his life in Lawrenceville, NJ. Tony graduated from Trenton Central High School in 1961. He followed in his father's footsteps building and remodeling homes around Lawrenceville. Tony enlisted with the Marine Corps in 1965 and was honorably discharged as sergeant in 1967. In 1981 he was hired by Lawrence Township Municipal as building inspector. Tony retired in 2020 holding the position as Construction Official. He was active in the restoration of the 1820 Canal House sponsored by the Lawrenceville Historical Society. Tony was a 39year member of the Rod and Gun Club in Newtown, PA. He was a member of American Legion Post 414 in Lawrenceville, former President of local CWA 1032 Unit, Lawrenceville from 1986-2020, and was a thirty-year member of NJ League of Municipalities and served as a representative for the League. Tony was an enthusiastic trap shooter, winning many trophies in competitions, and was passionate about hunting.
Tony and Karin Karvelas married on August 27, 1976. Tony is survived by his wife Karin, two sisters Mary Szalczyk, her husband Steve, nephews Mark, Stephen and Justin Szalczyk, Rosemary Sorensen, her daughters, nieces Jane and Molly Sorensen. His sister in law Joan Cermele, her daughters Susan Ferdetta and Lauren Hurley. Pre-deceased by his brother Mark Cermele, Jr.
For those who’s lives were touched by Tony, please know that it was his wish to have his ashes strewn over a mountain range often climbed during hunting season near the North Fork Cabin, Lock Haven, PA.
