Obituary of Hazel May Hines

Hazel May Hines passed away at the age of 90 at her residence in Lawrenceville, NJ on Friday, January 26, 2024. She was born in Hanover, Jamaica W.I., on January 4, 1934. She was the only daughter of the late Hugh Vickers, and Irene Ellis. Hazel attended school in Goodwill, St. James and subsequently married the late Lynden F. Hines. Her family resided in many places across the island before she migrated to the U.S. in 1968. She then began her pioneering journey to help her family to migrate to the United States. Anyone who met Hazel witnessed how abundantly blessed she was. This was the natural effect of the many gifts and blessings she extended to others. Not only did she single handedly bring her four children to the United States; she also helped other family members to experience "the land of opportunity” known as the U.S.. Hazel also extended God’s blessings to the needy back home in Jamaica. After she retired, Hazel resided in both New York and Mandeville, Jamaica W.I., for several years until her husband transitioned. She subsequently moved to Lawrenceville six years ago. While in New Jersey she attended Grace Community Church of the Nazarene in Pennington. Hazel was very passionate about her hobbies; gardening, tending to her flowers, cooking and sewing. She was lauded by all for her culinary, entertaining, and gardening skills. Everyone admired Hazel’s beautiful flower and vegetable gardens - especially the exquisite orchids she cultivated in her greenhouse in Jamaica. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend who will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Hazel is survived by her daughters: Dawn, Marcia and Sharon; son: Kurt; grandchildren; Andrew and Lauralee; sisters: Brenda and Sheila, brother John; many nieces and nephews including Kasmin, Donnette, David, Margo and Kirkland; cousins including Blanch and Peter; friends and loving caregivers. The viewing for Hazel will be held on Saturday, February 10, 2024 from 9:00 AM at the funeral home; Poulson & Van Hise Funeral Directors, 650 Lawrence Road, Lawrenceville, NJ 08648. Funeral services immediately following at the same location Saturday, February 10, 2024 at 10:00 AM Interment will be held in Lawrenceville Cemetery.
