Obituary of Sister Geraldine Schultz, OP

Sister Geraldine Schultz, OP (Sister Robert Joseph) of the Dominican Sisters of Hope, died December 2, 2023, at St. Joseph’s Nursing Home at Morris Hall in Lawrenceville, New Jersy. She was 94 years of age and 76 years of religious life. The daughter of the late William Joseph and Josephine Jancola Schultz, she was born August 31, 1929, in Clark, New Jersey. Sister Geraldine entered the novitiate of the Dominican Sisters of Newburgh, New York on September 7, 1947, made her First Profession June 25, 1949, and Final Profession August 22, 1952. Sister Geraldine earned her BS in Elementary Education from Villanova University. For more than 50 years, Sister Geraldine served as a teacher and principal in New York, New Jersey, Florida, and North Carolina. When she retired from full time ministry, she was the Director of After-Care at St. Elizabeth School in Linden, New Jersey. As she worked with children during those many years, she brought the message of Jesus to them and their families. In 2002, Sister retired at the Ann Ferguson Towers in Linden, a senior citizens apartment building, and was doing volunteer work. From 2010 – 2012, Sister lived at Asbury Tower in Asbury Park, New Jersey then she moved to Morris Hall in Lawrenceville, New Jersey when she needed a little more help. Sr. Geraldine is survived by her Dominican Sisters of Hope, her sister, Mary Ann Vandermeer, and nephews, Frederick, Carl, (Irene) James (Susan) and Kurt, Vandermeer. And grandnephews, Eric, Christopher, Michael, Ryan and Adam Vandermeer. She is predeceased by her parents, William, and Josephine Schultz and by her brothers Joseph, Robert and William Schultz. The viewing for Sister Geraldine will be held on Tuesday December 12, 2023, from 9:00-10:00AM at Mary Mother of God Church, 157 S Triangle Road Hillsborough Township, NJ 08844. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:00AM. Interment will be held at St. Mary’s Cemetery 685 Madison Hill Rd, Clark, NJ 07066.
