James C. “Jim” Collins 84, of Lawrenceville and formerly of Freehold, NJ passed away peacefully at his home on October 2nd.
The son of James C. Collins Sr. and Estelle Maloney Collins, Jim was born in Queens Village, New York on September 12, 1939. He attended Chaminade High School in Mineola, NY. He received his accounting degree from St. John’s University.
After graduation, Jim joined the firm of Price Waterhouse. This began his nearly fifty-year career in corporate accounting.
In 1960, Jim married Margaret (Peggy) Walsh of Queens Village, NY. Jim and Peggy had six children and resided in Manalapan, NJ. Jim coached baseball teams, played golf and was involved in civic organizations. Jim was divorced in 1986.
In 2004, Jim married Joan Reilly of Lawrenceville. He continued to be involved in Toastmasters. Jim was an avid reader of history, and read the New York Times every day. Jim and Joan enjoyed traveling and took many trips together.
In 2008, Jim retired from his career as an accountant. Jim was an avid New York Met fan, and enjoyed watching the games. He also enjoyed listening to Frank Sinatra and he did a great lindy.
Jim is survived by his wife Joan, his sister Maureen Collins Mark, six children (Jim, Kathy, Michael, Peter, Joe and Kevin),ten grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
The viewing will be held on Saturday morning, October 7, 2023 from 9-10:30am at Poulson & Van Hise Funeral Directors, 650 Lawrence Rd, Lawrenceville, NJ 08648.
A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00am at the Church of St. Ann, 1253 Lawrence Rd., Lawrenceville, NJ 0648.
Interment will follow at Lawrenceville Cemetery, Lawrenceville, NJ.
