Please share a memory of Janet to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Janet Elizabeth [Haines] Dunn, 91, passed away on Sunday, September 24, 2023, at Friends Village Assisted Living in Woodstown, NJ. Born in Mount Holly, Janet was raised in Masonville where her family had farmed New Jersey land since the 17th century, when a charter was granted by King Charles II. She was a graduate of The George School where she met a young man named Howard Dunn with whom she would share 68 years of marriage. Following graduation, Janet attended Ursinus College where she received her Bachelor’s Degree in Education and was an All-American field hockey player. Janet resided in Lawrenceville and Robbinsville for many years prior to moving to Woodstown in 2021. Janet was employed with the Lawrence Township Board of Education as a teacher for more than 30 years, retiring in 1991. Janet was active in the Presbyterian Church of Lawrenceville and Salem Friends Meeting and lived her life to the fullest. She was a cross-stitch artist extraordinaire, and her family and friends are sure to think often of her when they see their treasured gifts of framed cross stitch, bearing the initials JHD. Janet enjoyed the Jersey shore, reading, and rooting on the Pittsburgh Steelers whenever they took the field. Above all, Janet cherished her family and loved to spend time with them, especially on holidays. Quakers value words spoken from the heart and as such, her gentleness, kind words, and encouragement will be dearly missed, but her spirit will live on in our hearts forever. Predeceased by her parents, Sara (Walton) and C. William Haines, and her brother, C. William Haines, she is survived by her husband, Howard C. Dunn II; her son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Mary Dunn [and her children) of Elmer, NJ; her daughter and son-in-law, Debra and Richard Taylor of Southport, NC; her granddaughter Emilie Carlson and her husband, Matthew of Johns Island, SC; her grandson Thomas Taylor and his wife Hadley of Durham, NC; her great-granddaughter, Sarah Carlson, and her great-grandson, Eli Carlson; her sister, Debra Read of Woodstown, NJ; and several nieces and nephews. In accordance with Janet’s wishes, there will be no visitation. Services and Inurnment will take place privately at Westfield Friends Cemetery in Cinnaminson, NJ at the convenience of the family. If the Spirit so moves you, memorial contributions may be made to South Jersey Quakers, PO Box 67, Marlton, NJ 08053 or donate online at www.southjerseyquakers.org/donate
