Obituary of Thomas A. Bush

Thomas A. Bush, 75, of Philadelphia, passed away unexpectedly on Monday April 24, 2023, after a brief illness. Thomas passed just shy of celebrating his 76th birthday on Saturday April 29th.
Born in the Fairmount section of Philadelphia in 1947, he remained a life-long resident of the City of Brotherly Love. He was a 1965 graduate of Roman Catholic High School as well as a retiree of the Philadelphia Gas Works where he worked for over thirty years.
Thomas served in the United States Army in Vietnam with Company A 1/6 Infantry, 198th Light Infantry Brigade from 1967-1968. His company was nicknamed the Gunfighters. He was a part of the Battle of Lo Giang in 1968 where his company lost many soldiers. They were awarded the Valorous Unity Citation for this battle. He was honorably discharged in 1968 and received both the Purple Heart along with the Accommodation Medal for being a good soldier, an honor that is not bestowed on all.
Thomas enjoyed hunting and fishing and was an avid Philadelphia Phillies fan. He enjoyed lunching with his wife Willa and playing video games with his grandson, Xavi. One of his best memories was watching live at CBP Halladay pitch a no hitter during game 1 of the NLDS against the Cincinnati Reds on October 6, 2010, with his daughter Amy.
Thomas was the son of the late Augustine Bush and Catherine McDevitt. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years Willa; daughter Amy Godinez and her husband Miguel; grandson Xavi Godinez; and brother Michael Bush, along with many cousins, nieces and nephews. Thomas is predeceased by his sister Madeline McLaughlin and beloved canine companion Katie McD.
Military Honors and Internment will be held on Thursday May 4th, 2023, at 10:30 AM at the Washington Crossing National Cemetery located at 820 Highland Road Newtown, PA 18940.
Please arrive 15 minutes prior to the start of military honors.
