Michael I Mangione Obituary

Michael I. Mangione, 84, formerly of Stony Brook, New York, died Friday in Tamarac, FL. after a courageous battle against cancer.


Born in New York City, he resided most of his life in Stony Brook before moving to Tamarac, FL.


He was a retired police officer with the New York City Police Department. He later went on to work for the United States Postal Service before retiring once again.


Michael was a United States Marine Corps veteran of World War II.


Mike was a devoted husband, father, and grandpa. His hobbies were gardening, politics, dancing, and most of all, sports. He was a diehard Yankees, Notre Dame, Villanova, and most recently, Pittsburgh Steelers fan. There wasn't a sports trivia question that he couldn't answer.


Son of the late Anna Mangione and brother of the late Rose Mangione, he is survived by his beloved wife Helen Mangione, a daughter Donna Mangione and her husband Frederick Marencik and a son Michael Mangione and his wife Debbie. Also surviving are four grandchildren Stephen, Matthew and Catherine Marencik and Katie Mangione. He will be sadly missed by many dear neighbors and friends and grand-dog Maggie.


A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, February 7, 2009 at 9 AM at the Church of St. Ann, 1253 Lawrence Road, Lawrenceville. Burial will follow at St. James R.C. Church Cemetery in Setauket, N.Y.


Family and friends may call on Friday from 7:30 to 8:30 PM at Poulson & Van Hise Funeral Directors, 650 Lawrence Road, Lawrenceville.
