Mary Priscilla (Parno) DeMatteo, 90, of Ewing NJ passed away peacefully on Thursday March 11, 2021 surrounded by her loving family after a long illness. Born and raised in Trenton, NJ, she graduated from Trenton Central High School in 1949. Mary was the former co-owner of The Gentry and Calico Junction clothing stores at Turntable Junction in Flemington. Later, Mary continued to serve others by remaining in the clothing industry as an employee of David’s Apparel in Whitehouse and Orr’s Department Store in Flemington. Once retired, Mary continued to be a selfless and dutiful person. Mary lived in the Flemington area for over 55 years. She enjoyed being around people, especially her family members. She loved attending her grandchildren’s events and having gatherings at her home. Mary loved to tell her stories of growing up in Trenton back in the 1930s/1940s and her experiences overall. Mary had a way with words and combined with her edgy sense of humor always made her point. As the 10th of 12 children, Mary was the daughter of the late Sebastian and Carmela Parno. She was married for 61 years to John G. DeMatteo, Sr., who pre-deceased her in 2013. She had 3 sons, John G. Jr. (Michele) DeMatteo, Keith (Margaret) DeMatteo and Jeffrey DeMatteo; 5 grandchildren, Jacqueline, Shannon, Liam, Gregory and Christopher; one great grandson, Tucker William Borgstrom, 11 brothers and sisters, of which 10 pre-deceased her, and over 30 nieces and nephews. Viewing hours will be held on Wednesday from 6 – 9pm and Thursday from 9 – 10AM at the Poulson & Van Hise Funeral Directors, 650 Lawrence Rd. (Rt. 206), Lawrenceville, New Jersey 08648. Funeral service will be held Thursday 10AM. Interment will follow at Washington Crossing Veteran’s Cemetery, Washington Crossing, PA.
