Obituary of Sister Roberta Ann Bucci, OP

Sister Roberta Ann Bucci, OP of the Dominican Sisters of Hope, died February 17, 2021 at St. Mary, Morris Hall, Lawrenceville, New Jersey. She was 94 years of age. The daughter of the late Anthony and Liberta Sabastino Bucci, she was born October 9, 1926 in Camden, New Jersey. Sister Roberta Ann entered the novitiate of the Dominican Sisters of Newburgh, New York on September 8, 1956, made her First Profession June 13, 1958 and Final Profession August 21,1961. Sister Roberta Ann earned her BA in Education from Mount Saint Mary College, Newburgh, New York. Sister spent just shy of forty years in the field of education ministering in three different states. In Connecticut she taught at St. Brendan School in New Haven. In New York State Sister was assigned to St. Mary School, Newburgh and Christ the King in Yonkers. Most of Sister Roberta Ann’s ministry was spent in New Jersey where she taught at St. Mary’s School, Gloucester, St. Joan of Arc School, Camden, St. Mary’s School, New Monmouth and twenty-seven years at St. Joseph School, Toms River. Upon retiring from school ministry, Sister served as a Clerical Assistant and provided Congregational services at the Center of Hope at Ossining, New York. During her retirement years she first lived at the Center of Hope in Ossining, New York, then spent a year at Asbury Tower in Asbury Park, New Jersey and finally the last nine years at St. Mary, Morris Hall, Lawrenceville, New Jersey. Sister Roberta Ann is predeceased by her sisters Ann Houser, Martha Sutter, Philomena Sczepanski and her brothers Armand, Cadaida and Fred. Sister is survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Due to COVID the Mass of Christian Burial is being postponed to a later date. There will be a burial at 1pm on Wednesday, February 24, 2021, at the Dominican Sisters Cemetery at Mariandale, Ossining, New York.
