Obituary of Lucy Margaret Smith

Lucy Margaret Smith, 76, of Lawrenceville, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 8, 2021 at Sunrise of Lower Makefield, Yardley, PA. Born in Raleigh, NC, she was a graduate of NC State University and did graduate work in the University of Pittsburgh Biology department. She was a resident of Florham Park, NJ and Sandston, VA, before moving to Lawrenceville 41 years ago. Lucy was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was proud of and dearly loved her children and grandchildren, enjoying their soccer games and swim meets. It was a priority to Lucy to spend her time in service to others. When she retired she was Director of the Telephone Reassurance Program for the Mercer County Office on Aging. A longtime and active member of Lawrence Road Presbyterian Church, Lucy was a deacon, a member of the book and quilting clubs and she volunteered countless hours at the church. Lucy was an avid reader, enjoyed knitting, sewing, and quilting as well as watching ACC basketball. She and her husband, Lon, enjoyed travel, their favorite trips included a river-boat tour in China, food courts in Singapore, and hiking lava fields in Hawaii. Though dementia curtailed the last 10 years of her life, she was a joy to be with and full of love even when the disease had robbed her of so much. We will miss her and always love her. Predeceased by her parents Ben and Mary Smith; she is survived by her husband Lon Smith; her daughter Laura Smith, and son Brian Smith and his wife Amy; three grandchildren Bridget, Lisa, and Matthew Smith; her sister Marcia Mayo and her husband Mike; her sister-in-law Eleanor Hartley and her husband Paul; and two nephews Mark and Tom Hartley. The family will be holding a graveside service at the Lawrenceville Cemetery at 11:00 am on Friday, January 15. The family requests attendees wear masks and be mindful of social distancing.
