Marcia P. Harman, 65, of Washington Crossing, PA., died at home on Sunday, November 16th of pancreatic cancer. Born in Philadelphia she was a resident of Washington Crossing since 1972. She was a graduate of Philadelphia High School for Girls and Bryn Mawr College. Marcia was fully devoted to her family and her entire life was characterized by service to the community. She was involved with Girl Scouting for many years and in the late 1980's served as chairwoman of the Board of Directors of the Freedom Valley Girl Scout Council, now part of the Girl Scouts of Eastern Pennsylvania Council. Before retiring in 2007, Marcia was the Project Coordinator of the New Jersey AIDS Partnership, a position she held for 10 years. She worked on behalf of individuals with HIV/AIDS and was beloved by many throughout New Jersey and Pennsylvania. In her spare time she enjoyed gardening, flowers and her orchids. She was a member of the Central Jersey Orchid Society and her personal collection totaled nearly 300 plants. Daughter of the late J. William and Kathryn Hermann Patton, she is survived by her husband, Dr. John A. Harman; her daughter, Kathryn Merlo and her husband Anthony of Hamilton; her son, Paul Harman of Eugene, Oregon; her grandson, Matthew Barnes and granddaughter, Nicole Merlo both of Hamilton; and her sister-in-law, Nancy Harman of Arlington, Mass. Funeral services for Marcia will be held on Thursday at 11 AM at Poulson & Van Hise Funeral Directors, 650 Lawrence Road, Lawrenceville with the Rev. William R. Shaub officiating. Private family burial services will follow in Forest Hills Cemetery, Philadelphia. Friends may call on Wednesday from 6 to 9 PM and on Thursday morning from 10 AM until time of services at the funeral home.
