Oscar Marin, 86, of Princeton Junction, passed away on Friday, May 1, 2020 at St. Joseph’s Skilled Nursing Center, Lawrenceville, NJ.
Born in Belize City, Belize, he was a former resident of Lansdale, PA, and Monroe Township before residing at St. Joseph’s.
His was the classic immigrant story. He came to the United States in 1967 to build a better life for his family and he achieved that goal. His focus throughout his life was family, as anyone who knew him would attest. A loving and kind soul, Oscar mentored many family members and friends and was particularly available to assist fellow immigrants, no matter their country of origin.
Oscar retired after 21 years of service from Montgomery County Emergency Services where he served the Hispanic Community as a liason in the Mobile Crisis Unit. Previous to MCES, Oscar worked for Prudential and John Hancock Insurance companies and British American Insurance Company in Belize. He was a graduate of St. John’s R.C. High School and Junior College, Belize City.
Oscar loved spending time with family, weightlifting, shuffleboard, swimming in the sea and was a voracious reader. He was a loving husband, supportive father, grandfather and friend who was a deeply faithful Catholic. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Pius IX Council No. 4396 and devoted member of the Legion of Mary until the end of his life.
Predeceased by his parents Lucas and Anita Marin and his daughter Araceli Altagracia, brother of the late Arturo, Hippolito and Eduardo Marin; he is survived by his wife of 61 years Rosalie Marin (Fairweather); his sisters Alma Musa and Yolanda Zaldivar; his children Mirleni, Efrain and husband Jamie Powell, and Yolanda Sullivan and her husband Christopher; his grandchildren Mariel, Mia and Griffen Sullivan and many, many nieces and nephews.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic and gathering restrictions, a celebration of life service will be held at a later date.
