William Sherman Webb, 93, of Lawrenceville, NJ passed away peacefully on April 18, 2020 at his home in Lawrenceville, NJ. William (Bill) Webb was born February 13, 1927 in Camden, NJ, to George and Genevia Webb. Bill graduated from P.S. DuPont High School in Wilmington, Delaware in 1945. Part of The Greatest Generation, Bill joined the United States Army after high school and was stationed in Italy during World War II, where he worked at Banco di Napoli. He was later awarded the WWII Victory Medal for his participation in active duty. After the war, Bill returned to The U.S. and enrolled at The University of Delaware to study Chemical Engineering. While there, he was involved in numerous academic and social clubs including Jazz Band, Chemical Engineering Club, and the Phi Kappa Tau fraternity. Upon graduation from The University of Delaware, he joined the Mobil Oil Corporation as a Chemical Engineer. His work would take him to Spain for a short period, but most of his career was spent in the U.S. at the Mobil Research and Development Corporation in Pennington, NJ. Bill retired from the Mobil Oil Corporation in 1985 and spent much of his retirement traveling with his wife Eunice, visiting family throughout the U.S., Canada, Australia, and Europe. He was an accomplished musician who played the tenor sax in high school and college, and also enjoyed playing the piano at home to anyone that would listen. Bill was a lifelong resident of Lawrenceville, living there for over 50 years. He was active with St. Ann’s Church, as well as the Coast Guard Auxiliary and Meals On Wheels. Bill is preceded in death by his parents, George and Genevia Webb, and his brother’s Colonel George S. Webb, Jr. and Dr. Larry Webb. Bill is survived by his wife, Eunice Webb, his children Philip Subhan & Melanie Malloy, Michael & Tiffany Subhan, Deborah & Jeffrey Silver. His grandchildren, Ryan Subhan & Maggie Rosenberger, Peyton & Colin Subhan, and Sara Silver. His sister Geraldine Smith, and many nieces and nephews. Due to the COVID-19 virus and gathering restrictions funeral services will be private and burial will follow in the Washington Crossing National Cemetery, Washington Crossing, PA. In lieu of flowers donations in Mr. Webb’s name may be made to The Church of Saint Ann 1253 Lawrence Road, Lawrenceville, NJ 08648 or by calling (609) 882-6491.
