Having Marty Paulson for European History set my career and life's direction. I spent 36 years working on international issues for the United States Government. As I took on a teaching career in the latter part of my federal tenure, Marty was the demanding yet inspiring teacher I wanted to be. I continue to teach and to be a continuing learner, thanks to his example. Outside of the classroom, Marty enlivened my family's "Christmas Eve Eve" party, and we all enjoyed his joshing and humor.
As hard as it is for me to lose a life's role model, I know his family and friends grieve more. My sympathies to all of you and my thanks for the support you provided him in his teaching career.

Mr. Paulsson was one of the best teachers I ever had. I distinctly remember his Bill Buckley perspectives he brought to challenge us to think, to opine, and to argue our points with as much clarity and forcefulness as we could. He tied current events in with history, got everybody involved and helped us all see that all opinions matter, just so long as you could back it up. He was always energetic and positive and there is a least this one guy who has had a better life because of his presence.

Marty made the day brighter when he came into Blake Hardware. He always had a great story and was a customer who became a real friend. He is now an angel with Mr. Blake in that great hardware store in the sky. Our deepest condolences,

Dr. Paulsson’s European History class was one of the best I had at LHS. I used his framework for writing essays throughout college. I am glad I had an opportunity to be taught by him and greatly appreciate the fact that he thought enough of me to invite me to take his Euro History class.

Mr. Paulsson was one of the best teachers I had at LHS. I loved his honors history and economics class. He was very inspirational, witty and really held your attention in class. I loved his economics class so much that I got a BA degree in it. Mr. Paulsson will be missed. My sincere condolences to his family.

I am so saddened to hear of Mr. Paulsson’s death. I was a student of his at Lawrence High between 1971 and 1973. He was a truly gifted teacher who worked so hard to make us all better students and better people. I am grateful that I reconnected with him when he was teaching at College of New Jersey and got to tell him personally how much he helped me. RIP.

One of my favorite teachers!
Between Marty and Ruth Bills we had a history department to match that of any school!
Rest In Peace,

We don't remember the people who didn't leave a spark for us to remember. You had a spark I remembered all these years. Thanks for being a great teacher. I enjoyed our debates and your wit that gave me confidence.
