Obituary of Albertina M. Lowicki
Albertina M. (Tina) Lowicki, age 87, of Lawrenceville, New Jersey passed away on October 11, 2018.
Tina was born on Terceira, one of the Azores Islands of Portugal to Luiz V. Menezes and Mary Rocha on March 27, 1931. She lived in the village of Agualva on Terceira until the age of 18 where she learned her passion for cooking and baking from her grandmother, Francisca, a passion that carried throughout her life. Tina came to the United States in 1949 with her family and they settled in Warren, Rhode Island. There Tina became a modern American woman and a merchandiser in both cosmetics and millinery at a time when hats were at the height of style in ladies’ fashion. She worked for several major department stores in Rhode Island, Pennsylvania and New Jersey. She also developed a love for the beach while spending summer days in Newport, Rhode Island.
After marrying, and having a child, Tina enjoyed becoming a homemaker. Nothing made her happier than watching family and friends enjoy meals or treats that she prepared. She was also an avid gardener and member of the Garden Gate Garden Club of Lawrenceville for many years, taking particular pride in her magnificent roses. Tina also enjoyed arts and crafts and particularly excelled at making beautiful wedding invitations by quilling. She was a lover of animals, especially her beloved pets, Ceaser and Sassy.
Tina is survived by her devoted husband, Eugene, and son, Peter, both of Lawrenceville, and his partner, Michele Morgera, of Mount Laurel. She is also survived by her sister, Mary Semoes, brothers, Ernest (Carol) Menezes, Manuel (Judy) Menezes and Francis (Carolyn) Menezes, and many nieces and nephews, throughout the United States, and cousins in the Azores. She cherished all of her family and close friends, especially her nephew, Father Wade Menezes, who provided spiritual guidance and support to her in her later years. She is preceded in death by her father, Luiz, mother, Mary, and brothers, Arthur and Louis.
A private visitation and funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 17.
Memorial donations may be made to Morris Hall, Saint Joseph’s Skilled Nursing Care Facility, 1 Bishop’s Place, Lawrenceville, New Jersey 08648. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to all of the nurses, staff, and volunteers at Saint Joseph’s who provided kind and compassionate support to Tina during her extended stay there.
