Obituary of James J. Filipowicz
James J. Filipowicz., 75, loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather of Lawrenceville, passed away on Monday, May 14, 2018 peacefully at home.
Born in Trenton, NJ, he was a resident of Lawrenceville for over 35 years. James was a Veteran of the Vietnam War as a Military Police Officer, having honorably served his country with the US Army. During his tour of duty he became a pen pal of then, Trenton Mayor Arthur Holland. Upon returning from military service, he was asked to participate in the Hopewell Memorial Day Parade where he was presented with the key to the city. He is a retiree of Congoleum Corp., where he was a production manager. James, along with his brothers, created the Filipowicz AC baseball team in Lawrenceville. He continued his love of sports by being an avid New York Yankees baseball and Princeton Men’s and Women’s basketball fan. James was a devoted family man with a contagious sense of humor. He always made time for his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as in attending school functions, football games, cheerleading practices and school plays.
Son of the late John and Eileen Filipowicz, brother of the late Delores, John, Charles, Eileen and Francis. He is survived by his wife Ruthann, who he was married to for over 50 years; his children Susan and James, Jr.; two grandchildren Christopher and Caitlyn; two great-grandchildren Hunter and Jaxson; three brothers Alexander, Robert and wife Joyce and Michael; numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 18, 2018 at 10:00AM at Poulson & Van Hise Funeral Directors, 650 Lawrence Road, Lawrenceville, NJ 08648.
Interment will follow at St. Hedwig Cemetery, Ewing Twp.
Relatives and friends can call on Friday morning from 9:00AM until the time of the service at the funeral home.
Memorial donations can be made in Jim’s honor to the American Heart Association.
