Anthony ""Tony Shoes"" DiStefano, 89, of Lawrence Township, died Friday in Compassionate Care Hospice at St. Francis Medical Center. Born in Trenton, he resided most of his life in West Trenton. He resided in Lawrenceville for the last three years. Mr. DiStefano was a court stenographer with the State of New Jersey Administrative Office of the Courts. He retired in 1979 after forty years of service. At the time of his retirement, he was assistant supervisor of court reporters for Mercer, Hunterdon, and Somerset counties. He was an Army veteran of World War II and served in the Pacific Theatre of Operations. Mr. DiStefano was assigned to General Headquarters in Manila, Philippine Islands, and served in the decoding section under General Douglas McArthur. He was an avid sports enthusiast, active in golfing, bocce leagues, and bowling. In the nineteen forties and fifties he was an official scorekeeper for various local baseball leagues. Mr. DiStefano was a former member of Our Lady of Good Council Church in West Trenton. He served as a lector, and was a member and former treasurer of the Our Lady of Good Council Seniors Club, He was also a member of the Holy Name Society at the church. Son of the late Giovanni and Carmela Pinto DiStefano and husband of the late Mary Bibac DiStefano, he is survived by a son and daughter-in-law Anthony Jr. and Susan DiStefano, and a granddaughter Dana Michelle DiStefano. Also surviving are a brother Ralph DiStefano and a sister and brother-in-law Jennie and Santo Cileo. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10 AM in the Church of St. Ann, 1253 Lawrence Road, Lawrenceville. Entombment will be in the Ewing Church Cemetery Mausoleum in Ewing Township. Family and friends may call on Tuesday from 9 to 10AM at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Faith Development Center, Church of St. Ann, 1253 Lawrence Road, Lawrenceville, NJ 08648 or to the Visiting Nurses Association of Mercer County Hospice Program, P.O. Box 441, Trenton, NJ 08603.
