Obituary of Eileen Murphy

Eileen Murphy (nee Flannery), 82, of Hamilton, passed away on Wednesday, May 25th after a brief but mighty battle with cancer, surrounded by her family at home.
Born and raised in Bayonne, NJ, Eileen was a longtime Lawrenceville resident before moving to Hamilton in 2012.
Eileen attended St. Mary Star of the Sea grammar school and graduated from Holy Family Academy in Bayonne on a full scholarship. A renaissance woman, Eileen had numerous and rewarding work experiences. She was a homemaker, kindergarten aide, entrepreneur who owned her own luncheonette, Federal Bankruptcy Court Clerk, employee at Rider University’s Print Shop as well as a receptionist at Yardville National Bank. Eileen especially cherished her role in life of being a loving and devoted mother of six and grandmother of 17.
She was a member of the Church of St. Ann's in Lawrenceville for 42 years. Over the years, she served as President of the St. Ann’s Altar Rosary Society, and was a Eucharistic Minister. Eileen also sat on the Pastoral Council for the church, taught CCD and enjoyed being on the committee for the annual St. Ann’s Parish Golf Tournament. Recently Eileen was a communicant at St. Gregory the Great.
Eileen was very proud of her Irish heritage and was active in the local Irish community. She served as a committee member for multiple Irish American organizations, including The Trenton St. Patrick's Day Parade Committee, The Edel Quinn Society, The Sons and Daughters of Erin, The Friendly Sons and Daughters of St. Patrick of Mercer County, The Ancient Order of Hibernians Ladies Auxiliary Division 6 and Division 10. In 2001, The Sons and Daughters of St. Patrick selected her to be their Irish-American Daughter of the Year. In 2009, she was honored by the Sons and Daughters of Erin and recognized as the Irish Mother of the Year.
Daughter of the late Michael and Mary (Clark) Flannery, and wife of the late James E. Murphy, Eileen is survived by her son, Mark J. Murphy, her four daughters: Sheila Barry, Pamela Wilson and her husband Kent, Megan O'Donnell and her husband Daniel, and Kelli Eileen Davis and her husband Bradley, her sixteen grandchildren: Brian Nolan Barry and his wife Kristina, Shannon Barry Coudurier and her husband Martin, Kevin Barry, Ryan and Conor Murphy, Kelly, Keegan and James Wilson, Jack, Sean, Flannery and Grace O'Donnell, and Donovan, Seamus, Declan and Aidan Davis, a great grand daughter, Colette Coudurier, her sister, Kathleen Wode, her sister-in-law Irmgard Flannery, and several nieces and nephews. Eileen was also predeceased by her son, Brian Clark Murphy, her grandson, Dylan Davis, her brother, Michael Flannery, and brother-in-law Edgar Wode.
The funeral will begin on Tuesday, May 31, 2016 9 am at Poulson & Van Hise Funeral Directors, 650 Lawrence Road, Lawrenceville, NJ 08648. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am at the Church of St. Ann, Lawrenceville, NJ.
Interment will follow at Holy Name Cemetery, Jersey City, NJ
Relatives and friends may call on Monday evening from 5-9 pm and again Tuesday morning from 8:00 – 9:00 am at the funeral home.
