Obituary of Walter Lashutka
Please share a memory of Walter to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Walter “Pete” Lashutka, 85, of Pennington died peacefully at home on Friday May 6, 2016.
Born in Trenton, Pete was a long-time resident of Lawrenceville before moving to Pennington 2 years ago. He retired in 1997 as a head custodian with the Lawrence Twp. Board of Education after many years of faithful service.
He was a proud Army veteran of the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged as a sergeant first class. He was a member of the American Legion Post 414 and V.F.W. Post 3022 both of Lawrenceville.
Pete was well known as an avid golfer having been introduced to the sport by his brother Mickey. His collection of golf memorabilia was extensive and at one time possessed over 10 sets of golf clubs and at last count had over 100 types of golf balls. He was also a big fan of western movies and was known to quote lines from some of his favorite movies.
Pete also enjoyed gardening and had a green thumb. He loved bird watching and especially enjoyed feeding a pair of cardinals that visited him frequently.
In his younger years he loved playing baseball and later became an American Legion coach. He always enjoyed playing ball with his kids and encouraged them to pursue any sport they enjoyed. He never found it a burden to go outside and play with his children.
Son of the late Harry and Olga Zuk Lashutka, husband of the late Dolores Kostar Lashutka, brother of the late Estelle Bojarski, Ann Nicholes and Paul Lashutka and uncle to the late John Kostar, Cynthia Lynn Kostar and RJ Kostar; he is survived by his children, Karen J. Lashutka of West Trenton, Gary Lashutka and his wife Linda of Lawrenceville and Maryanne Leming and her husband James of Hamilton and his brother, Mickey Lashutka and his wife Betty. Pete is also survived by his adopted daughter Eillie Vogiatzglou and grandson Takis, a very dear family friend Donna Perna and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Pete will be held on Saturday, May 14th at 11 AM at Poulson & Van Hise Funeral Directors, 650 Lawrence Road, Lawrenceville. Visitation for relatives and friends will be from 10 AM until time of services at the funeral home. Please honor Pete by either wearing golf attire or bright cheerful clothing.
