Raymond T. Britton, 81, of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on July 5, 2026, surrounded by his loving and devoted family.

Ray is survived by his wife of 62 years, Kristine (Smith) of Myrtle Beach, his children; his son and daughter-in-law, John Britton and his wife Wendy, his daughter and son-in-law, Carol Tamasi and her husband Jeff, his son and daughter-in-law Joseph Britton and his wife Janet and his 7 grandchildren, Sarah, Allison, Amanda, Jeffrey, Kaitlyn, Sarah K. and Kyle A. as well as his 5 great-grandchildren, Hayley, Jaxon, Gianna, Ryan and Benjamin.  He also leaves behind to mourn his loss, his sister and brother-in-law, Margaret McKenna and her husband Dennis, his sister-in-law Doris Britton, his dear friends Chet and Patty Williams and Rick and Linda Ernsberger and many nieces, nephews and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Margaret Britton, his brother David Britton and his mother-in-law Dorothy Smith.

Ray was born in Princeton, NJ to John and Margaret Britton on June 7, 1945. He went to high school at Princeton High School and graduated in 1963. After graduating from the Sea Girt Police Academy, Ray joined the Lawrence Township Police Department in 1970 where he retired as a Detective after 29 years of service until 1999. After 2 years of retirement, he then moved on to work for the State of NJ as an Insurance Fraud Investigator in 2001 where he retired after 20 years in 2021. During his career he was awarded a Resolution Commendation from the Lawrence Township Council, an NJS PBA Certificate of Merit for Commendable Service, an American Legion Merit Medal from American Legion Post 414, a Silver Star for Bravery Award from American Federation of Police, Knights of Columbus Lawrence Council 7000 for Outstanding Service, and an Americanism Award for Outstanding Character and Performance of Duty from the Bordentown Lodge BPOE Elks. 

Ray loved and cherished his time spending it with his family. His dry sense of humor made everyone laugh. He was the grill master whenever he had picnics or parties at his house. He enjoyed playing and watching golf. He also enjoyed watching his favorite teams the Yankees and the Eagles. 

A Memorial gathering for Ray will take place on Friday July 17, 2026 from 4:00 to 7:000 PM at Poulson & Van Hise Funeral Directors, 650 Lawrence Road, Lawrenceville, NJ 08648

A Prayer Service will be held at 6:45 PM
