Stefania Chmara, 88, of Ewing Township, passed away on Tuesday, May 26, 2026 at Brandywine Senior Care Center, Pennington, New Jersey.

Stefania was the daughter of the late Makary and Magdalena Cierniak. She was the beloved wife of the late Chester Chmara and the cherished mother of daughter Theresa Chmara and husband Patrick Slevin, daughter Halina Chmara and husband Robert Russo, and son, the late Edward Chmara. She is also survived by her treasured grandchildren Angela Chmara Slevin Gallivan and husband Timothy Gallivan, Claire Chmara Slevin, Eddie Chmara, and Amanda Russo and her husband John and children Jacob and Cora, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews. Stefania is survived by her sister, Anna Kobos, and was the sister of the late John and Mary Cierniak, Frank and Mary Cierniak, Janina and Stanislaw Woznicka, and sister-in-law of Stanislaw Kobos. She is survived by her sisters-in-law Mary Wojciechoswki, Donna Chmara, and Roseanne Chmara and was the sister-in-law of the late Henry and Regina Chmara, Gene Wojciechowski, Van Chmara, Henry Talarsky, and Janina and Lech Proszynski.

Stefania was born in Dabrowa Tarnowska in the county of Krakow, Poland, where she eventually worked as a school teacher. She immigrated to the United States in 1960 and became a naturalized citizen. She is a retiree of Roller Bearing Inc., where she was an inspector for many years.  Stefania was a parishioner at St. Hedwig Church.  

Stefania loved to read, sew, and travel. She particularly loved vacation cruises that would enable her to visit many new places on one trip. She had boundless energy and was always on the move from one activity to another. You would be hard pressed to find a speck of dust in her home, a stray leaf in her yard in the fall, or a flake of snow on her driveway in the winter. She was also one of the most generous people you would ever meet, helping family, assisting friends, and spoiling her precious grandchildren. She loved animals and always had a cat or dog as a pet. She had a smile for everyone and will be greatly missed by her family, friends, and neighbors.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, at 10:00AM at St. Hedwig Church, 872 Brunswick Avenue, Trenton, NJ 08648.

Interment will be held at St. Hedwig Cemetery in Ewing Township immediately following Mass.

The visitation for Stefania will be held on Monday, June 1, 2026, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM and again on Tuesday morning from 8:30 to 9:30 AM at Poulson & Van Hise Funeral Directors, 650 Lawrence Road, Lawrenceville, NJ 08648.
